The top prize in Eurojackpot has reached its €120 million limit for the first time, setting up the opportunity for someone to become the lottery’s biggest-ever winner.

For 10 years after the launch of Eurojackpot in 2012, the rules only allowed for the top prize to climb as high as €90 million. However, changes were made to the game in March to generate more excitement, with the jackpot cap lifted by €30 million to €120 million.

Eurojackpot surged past €90 million for the first time in May, but a German player scooped €110 million a couple of draws later to stop it from getting to its new maximum amount.

It has only taken a couple more months, though, with a run of 15 rollovers taking Eurojackpot into uncharted territory.

How the Jackpot Cap Works

The jackpot for the next draw on Friday 22nd July will be worth €120 million, and it will stay at that value until there is at least one ticket that matches all the numbers. There is no limit to how long it can remain at that level.

The excess funds that would normally go on top of the jackpot are instead diverted to the second prize tier, for matching five main numbers and one Euro number. This effectively creates a second jackpot, which can be worth tens of millions of Euros. When the jackpot cap is in place, you can therefore end up receiving huge prizes without even matching all the numbers.

The jackpot cap was hit several times when it stood at €90 million, but Friday’s draw will make history as the first one at its new limit. Go to the Jackpot Cap page for more information about how it works.

As well as the increase to the jackpot cap, a new Tuesday draw was also introduced when the game was updated in May. There has not yet been a jackpot winner on a Tuesday, but with the top prize at its cap there are sure to be millions of tickets sold for both draws until it is finally won.

You can play by visiting authorised lottery retailers in any of the 18 participating countries, or taking part online. Remember to check the latest results as soon as draws have taken place.
