Friday night’s Eurojackpot draw produced the biggest prize in Swedish lottery history as one lucky ticket holder won the jackpot. The player matched all five main numbers and both Euro numbers to land more than €53 million (561 million kr).

Search Begins For Winner

The winning numbers on Friday 15th March were 1, 2, 11, 19 and 47, with Euro numbers 2 and 7. There was only one ticket anywhere in Europe that matched all the numbers, bringing an end to a sequence of four rollovers stretching back to 8th February, when a German player won €63 million.

Swedish lottery operator Svenska Spel started trying to track down the winner straight away, but could not get in touch over the weekend. However, they could reveal some information about the player, who had bought the all-important ticket online.

“We can confirm that it is a man living in Närke who submitted the game,” said winner’s ambassador Pierre Jonsson. “The total receipt price was SEK 50, so he had played two rows of SEK 25 each, and these SEK 50 thus became over half a billion kronor. It is an incredible exchange.” Jonsson added that the winner had allowed the computer to pick his two lines at random.

It seems that the winner is so far unaware of his good fortune, and Jonsson knows it will be a lot to take in. “It is important for us to take it very calmly and carefully in communication with him, all in order to make him feel as safe as possible in the situation that has now arisen,” said Jonsson, adding that financial and legal advice would be available to the winner for a long time to come.

Nobody has ever won such a large lottery prize in the history of the Swedish lottery. The only other player from the country to win Eurojackpot came from Gothenburg and collected 257 million kr (€22 million) last July.

Big Prizes Across Europe

Apart from the jackpot winner, there were over 1.1 million prizes given away in the other categories. Six participants - four from Finland, one from Germany and one from Norway - won €374,830 after matching five main numbers plus one Euro number. Go to the Eurojackpot Results page for a full breakdown of all the prizes won.

The jackpot will now reset to €10 million for the next draw on Friday night, giving you another chance to become a big winner. There are also 11 ways to win apart from the jackpot. You can take part online or by going to a licensed retailer in any of the 18 participating countries.
