The top prize in Eurojackpot is worth a gigantic €43 million for the first draw of 2018 on Friday night. The jackpot has been climbing since a Danish player won €10 million on 24th November, and now players across Europe can dream of getting their New Year off to a perfect start.

The year may have finished with a run of five rollovers, but it was a fantastic 12 months for many players as a host of big prizes were given away. The game, launched in 2012, crowned its 100th millionaire in August, and the jackpot was won 11 times in 2017, including in three consecutive draws in November.

The record for the biggest jackpot ever won was equalled in the first draw of 2017 when five ticket holders - three from Germany, one from Denmark and one from the Netherlands - split €90 million on 6th January. The result also made another small piece of history as it marked the first time that multiple players had shared the jackpot.

The largest winner on a single ticket was the Finnish player who scooped €86.9 million on 14th April. They bought their quick-pick entry in the city of Tampere in the south-west of the country, becoming Finland’s biggest lottery winner of all time.

Eurojackpot also continued to get bigger and better in 2017, with Poland joining the game in September. They became the 18th country to start selling tickets, making Eurojackpot twice as big as rival pan-European lottery EuroMillions in terms of the number of participating countries.

Poland’s arrival late last year increased the number of potential Eurojackpot players and helped to give the jackpot a chance to grow more quickly. With €43 million in the jackpot to start 2018 - the most since Poland joined - it could spark a record number of ticket sales in the next few weeks.

Germany has traditionally been the most successful Eurojackpot country, boasting 24 jackpot winners since the game started, and will be looking to give away even more big prizes this year. Finland ranks as the second most successful Eurojackpot nation with 15 winners of the top prize.

If you want to become the first jackpot winner of the year, you can choose numbers online now or play through an authorised retailer in one of the participating countries. Good luck!
